Skirting Board in Dubai: PU vs Marble vs MDF Before You Replace the Floor Line

The tiles are down. The old line is marble, swollen MDF, or a thin original. Decide PU, marble, or MDF before you buy the boards.

Wall moulding and floor-line trim in a Dubai interior

The tiles are in. The old skirting is a thin strip the painter already scuffed, marble that does not match the new floor, or MDF that swelled behind the AC. Somebody is about to order a box. That is the wrong moment.

Skirting is the floor line. In a Jumeirah villa or a Marina tower it takes kicks, mop water, and the gap where the tile meets the wall. Wall moulding is a different job. We already wrote that. This is the strip at your feet.

Mohammad Decor is a family-run interiors crew at Dragon Mart Complex 2, Shop G-C-22. We supply and install. We do not publish a rate card. WhatsApp +971 52 544 4028 for a free visit.

What goes wrong when the floor is already down

The leftover budget is the messy part. The floor took the money. Skirting is what you remember when the grout is dry and the gap looks dirty. People buy MDF because a supplier listing is cheap, then watch it fatten after one humid summer and a mop.

Marble is the other leftover. Plenty of Dubai villas already have it. It looks serious until you change the floor to a warmer tile and the stone line sits there like a different house. It also chips. You notice that at the door, not in the photo.

Then height. New tile is often thicker than what came out. The old line no longer covers the gap, or it now fouls a door swing. You only see that with a tape on the actual floor, not from a box of boards.

PU, marble, or MDF: pick before you buy the boards

Search will show you wooden, MDF, marble, aluminium, metal, tiles, and a dozen suppliers. Those are products. The floor line still needs a decision.

Marble stays if it is sound and you still like it. It is a wet trade to replace, and it will not paint to match a PU feature wall. If the stone is good, leaving it is not a failure.

MDF and wood are the cheap box. They swell. They are also what termites eat. We will not specify them for a coastal tower or any room that gets mopped hard.

PU is what we usually fit when the line has to change. It is light, it takes paint, and we can match it to wall moulding already in the room. The catch: a skinny profile under a tall villa wall looks like a mistake. We would rather tell you that on site than sell you the small one.

Aluminium and metal show up in autocomplete too. That is a supplier listing, not this job. A metal line on a tiled villa floor is a different trade. We will say so.

How we match the new line

Send the worst corner, not the styled wall. A straight-on photo of the gap, the door, and any wall moulding you already have. That is enough to know whether this is a skirting job or part of a larger moulding install.

On the visit we measure the existing height, the tile thickness, and the door clearance. We check whether the old marble has to come off or can stay. If you can come to Dragon Mart Complex 2, Shop G-C-22, you can stand the PU sample against your phone photo. If you cannot, we bring samples to the villa.

You get a supply-and-install quote on WhatsApp after that measurement. Not before. Same family crew. The people who quote also fit the line.

If the marble is still sound, we may tell you to leave it. That is an allowed answer. If the MDF is already fat, do not wait for the next floor.

FAQ

Common questions

PU, marble, or MDF for a Dubai floor line?
Marble is what many villas already have. It chips and it rarely matches a new wood-look tile. MDF is cheap at a supplier and it swells behind AC and mop water. PU is light, paint-ready, and we can match it to wall moulding you already fitted. If the marble is still sound, leaving it is an allowed answer.
Can you match new PU skirting to wall moulding I already have?
Yes, if you send a photo of the existing profile with the floor-line shots. We bring PU samples to Dragon Mart Complex 2, Shop G-C-22, or to the villa. Matching is a visit job, not a guess from a product page.
Can I keep the marble skirting?
Sometimes. If the height still covers the tile gap and you like the stone, we will say leave it. Replacing a good marble line just to match a feature wall is a waste of a leftover budget.
Do you show prices on this page?
No. Height, metres, whether the old line has to come off, and access change the number. Photos get a range. The firm figure follows the free visit.
