Shop box vs supply and install
A lighting shop sells the fitting. Supply and install quotes the hung result: fixings, alignment, test, and, when the job needs it, new points or circuit changes by a licensed electrician.
Already bought a chandelier? Send photos and the weight. We will say if the ceiling can take it. A listing photo does not show the slab, the false ceiling void, or the switch that actually controls the room after dark.
Villa vs apartment constraints
Villas often have taller halls, heavier centre fittings, outdoor runs, and more room to plan layers. Facade and garden lights need weather-rated fittings only. Entrance and majlis double-height pieces need fixings checked on the visit, not guessed from a carton label.
Apartments add landlord or building rules, lift size, neighbour quiet hours, and false ceilings with limited void. Some towers will not allow new points without approval. Some want nothing that risks the waterproofing or the neighbour below. Send the rule if you have it. A flush ceiling light or a modest pendant is often the honest Marina or JVC brief when a villa chandelier will not clear the door or the slab.
Renting changes the brief again. Removable or swap-on-existing-points work is different from chasing new circuits. We will not tell you to hide unapproved electrical work.
Room-by-room basics (without fake lux numbers)
Plan for how the room is used at 2 pm and 10 pm, not only how a showroom sample looks.
We do not invent wattage charts or brand rankings on this page. The visit short-lists fittings against your ceiling, existing points, and how you use the room.
- Majlis / formal living. Layered warm light: a centre fitting or flush, wall wash, and dimming when evening hosting matters. One bright downlight grid rarely finishes a reception room. Curtains and wall moulding often join the same WhatsApp thread once ceilings are measured.
- Everyday living. Centre plus task or wall light so TV glare and reading corners are not one switch fighting each other. Sheer and blackout layers change how much artificial light you need after sunset. We already wrote those window posts separately.
- Bedroom. Softer layers and bedside control. Blackout on the window is a fabric job; the light plan still has to work when the curtains are closed.
- Kitchen. Pendants over an island or dining drop set to the furniture height, not copied from a listing. Task light where you actually prep. Avoid long fabric near a hob. That is a different trade.
- Corridor and stairs. Even light without glare on marble. Wall lights can pair with moulding or leave the plaster clean.
- Outdoor / villa entrance. IP-rated fittings for paths, facade washes, and doors. Indoor fixtures stay indoors. Heat and dust are normal; the rating is not optional marketing.
- LED cove and strip. Warm continuous lines need the right profile and driver for Gulf rooms. Cove prep sometimes sits next to crown moulding. Measure both before promising a glowing line.
What the free visit actually checks
Send ceiling and room photos, the community, and whether this is a villa or an apartment. Straight-on shots of the fitting location, any false ceiling, switches, and outdoor runs if relevant. Say if you already bought a piece.
