Dust settles between the fibres. Wind and nearby trees add leaves. Outdoor AC drip and rare winter rain both need a clear path to an outlet. Heat does not cook a UV-stable lawn overnight, but it can make an existing pet smell more obvious and leave high-traffic paths looking matted.

A simple cleaning routine
You do not need a machine for ordinary dust.
Pressure washing is easy to overdo. It can move infill and stress seams. If you use one, keep it gentle and follow the care notes for your turf. When in doubt, hose and brush.
How often depends on exposure. A quiet shaded courtyard needs less than a west-facing play lawn next to a dusty road. A practical starting point many Dubai homes use is a light brush every few weeks and a rinse after heavy dust, then more often if pets or kids use the same strip every day.
- Clear debris first. Leaves and plastic that sit in the pile compact into the infill and can slow drainage.
- Brush against the lay. Use a stiff synthetic broom or the tool named at handover. Lift the fibres. Skip metal rakes.
- Rinse when the lawn looks grey. A gentle hose after a sandstorm or a dusty week is usually enough. Let water leave through the backing and out the intended drain.
- Spot-clean spills. Mild soap and water. Blot, rinse. Avoid solvents and bleach unless the product instructions allow them.
- Check edges and outlets. A blocked balcony drain or a puddle after rinse is a system problem, not a reason to buy stronger fragrance.
Pets, kids, and balconies
Pet urine does not kill synthetic fibres the way it can kill real grass. Residue can still sit in the pile, backing, or infill. Remove solid waste, rinse the used zone so liquid passes through, and use a turf-compatible enzyme cleaner when water is not enough. Keep pets off until the label says the area is ready. Kids’ play flattens paths. Brush those routes. Soft pile underfoot is not a substitute for a proper fall surface where climbing equipment sits. Specify play turf at install if that is the job.
Balconies have no soil. Dust, mop water, and AC condensate all have to reach the outlet. Do not cover the drain. A balcony-weight roll and a drainage mat are a different brief from a villa lawn. When DIY is enough, and when to book a visit
Stay on the hose and broom when the lawn is dusty, a little flat, or has a fresh spill you can still rinse through. Book a maintenance visit when:
A cleaning visit is brushing, rinsing, targeted stain or enzyme treatment, and a look at seams and edges, not a fragrance spray. If the backing is brittle, fading is widespread, or the base has sunk, you are past cleaning. That is a repair or replace conversation on a free measurement, same as any other grass job.
